Q&A with my characters – part 2

Welcome back fellow readers!

It’s time for part 2 of the short Q&A with my main characters in Relic – my debut YA fantasy novel which will be out this September. Last week I did part 1, which included a Q&A with Kaylan, Rennard and Shae.

This week you will see the answers from Markus (a nobleman), Jesper (Rennard’s wife), Elias (Kaylan’s brother) and Captain Thorn (Captain of the Guard).

Reminder: I wrote these questions in the strictest confidence – meaning my character’s answers are based on the belief that they would be seen by no-one else, hence why they are quite honest answers! Some of my characters would definitely not be so forthcoming if they knew these questions were going out into the public (oops).

These questions are also answered before the events of Relic take place.

Before we launch into it, don’t forget to subscribe to my newsletter here. There will be exclusive content and giveaways coming very soon.

Don’t forget you can also add Relic to your Goodreads TBR list right now!

Subject: Markus Aldwaine
Occupation: Master of the Hunt

Q: Who do you admire and why?
A: Honestly, my animals. Perhaps it is because they are free to be free, to be themselves, to have fun, to work hard and enjoy it… wouldn’t that be nice.

Q: What do you dislike about yourself?
A: I dislike that, despite everything, I still wish my parents loved me.

Q: What is your biggest fear?
A: That something bad will happen to my sister, something I can’t stop.

Q: When was the last time you had fun?
A: I’m teaching my sister to cook. She’s getting pretty good at it, but she hasn’t really grasped baking yet. So I went to teach her one of my signature desserts… let’s just say the kitchen ended up in a mess!

Q: What is your biggest pet peeve?
A: When people mistreat animals, in any way.

Subject: Lady Jesper Ediann
Occupation: NA – wife of Lord Rennard

Q: Who do you admire and why?
A: An old friend of mine, Edun Stynes. He is the strongest person I know.

Q: What do you dislike about yourself?
A: I dislike that I allow my fear to make me cruel to others. Rather than standing up for what I believe in, I cave to peer pressure and often do nothing to defend others… that’s just as bad as doing the cruel thing.

Q: What is your biggest fear?
A: That I’ll blink and miss my life.

Q: When was the last time you had fun?
A: Some of my garden was destroyed in a terrible storm during the night. The only good thing that came of it was that I got to replant everything!

Q: What is your biggest pet peeve?
A: When people don’t listen to what I’m saying.

Subject: Elias Rove
Occupation: Scullion

Q: Who do you admire and why?
A: My father! He was so brave and showed me the kind of man I want to be.

Q: What do you dislike about yourself?
A: I can be selfish.

Q: What is your biggest fear?
A: That I will never live up to my father. That I will always be seen as ‘less’ than him.

Q: When was the last time you had fun?
A: I wouldn’t call it ‘fun’ but I met up with some friends and we spoke about the future and where we see ourselves in it… it was thrilling.

Q: What is your biggest pet peeve?
A: I hate being treated like a child!

Subject: Captain Thorn
Occupation: Captain of the Guard, Edriast

Q: Who do you admire and why?
A: My grandfather. He taught me everything I needed to know about how to lead strong men.

Q: What do you dislike about yourself?
A: I suppose I dislike… that I’ve become dependent on people fearing me to get them to follow my orders.

Q: What is your biggest fear?
A: Disappointing Lord Rennard.

Q: When was the last time you had fun?
A: I like being alone. So I guess the last time I enjoyed myself was when Lord Rennard sent me on a diplomatic errand and I went the long route through the forest, taking a few hours for myself.

Q: What is your biggest pet peeve?
A: When other people’s mistakes make me look bad.

And that’s the end of the Q&A session! I had a lot of fun writing these and to be honest it was a bit harder than I expected. I will probably do some more of these in the future – perhaps with longer answers – so keep an eye out!
