Book review: Lifel1k3 by Jay Kristoff

Review by Bronwyn (Spoiler free)
Lemon Fresh, Cricket, Kaiser… these are just some of the colourful and kick-ass characters that run (literally) alongside our protagonist Eve. She’s a girl with a mysterious past… one she doesn’t even know herself! Jay masterfully builds the tension leading up to the revelation for Eve (and the reader) that her life isn’t what she thought it was.
I love Eve’s backstory and how drastically her life has changed! It really is Romeo + Juliet meets Terminator – two stories I’ve always loved, so it’s no surprise I was sold well before I even opened the pages of Lifel1k3. Just like Sarah Connor in Terminator, Eve’s life isn’t as simple as she thought. She’s meant for bigger things than just fighting in a dome under a thunder of cheers, screams and calls for death.
My favourite part had to be the ending – something I definitely didn’t see coming! I promise not to spoil it, but man-oh-man, what a reveal. Things have already changed once for Eve, her world has already been turned upside down. Now it’s happened again and Jay Kristoff has left us in this dark abyss waiting – DESPERATELY – for book two.
